You will feel like being in Szeklerland if you are a fan of Transylvanian flavours and craft beers. The concept of the restaurant faithfully reflects the philosophy of our brand: we use only natural ingredients (in case of beer or food); there is a little Szekler love in everything; it “refreshes, nourishes and cheers”.
In addition to the usual and popular beers and potato crisps which can be found on the menu of the Tiltott Csíki Söröző & Étterem of Mechwart liget, there are also unique dishes with special flavours. Our guests can learn more about the science of brewing. With the help of Csíki Sör Manufactory, a mini brewery has been installed in our restaurant. Its technology is the same as we have in the brewery in Csíkszentsimon.
Enjoy a gleam of sunshine on our terrace which welcomes over 100 people or come inside and feel the warmth of our Szekler dishes made with heart and hand. There is a separate room available for larger groups and special events within our restaurant for 40 people. It’s the perfect location for family gatherings and team building events. Visit us if you want a bite of the Szekler culture and let's toast together with our high-quality beers!
THE FIRST WRITTEN RECORD OF CSÍKI BREWING DATES BACK MORE THAN HALF A MILLENIUM.
THE FIRST WRITTEN RECORD OF CSÍKI BREWING DATES BACK MORE THAN HALF A MILLENIUM.
The first written record of Csíki brewing dates back more than half a millennium, in written form it was first mentioned in 1548, in the work ‘Transylvania’ of the Jesuit monk Antonio Possevino.
The Csík Basin is ideal for brewing beer. The tectonic and volcanic plates that meet there create unique crystal-clear spring water that is essential for the quality and taste of Csíki Sör, brewed exclusively from water, barley malt and hops.
In addition, the early development of brewing was also due to the fact that the foggy, cold climate there is not ideal for the cultivation of grape or other fruits (e.g. plum, peach), allowing the people of the Csík Basin to brew beer instead of making wine and brandy.
The bright side of cold weather is, however, that from early autumn until late spring, there was ice on the river Olt, which was essential for proper fermentation and storage.
Old Szeklers used to say that brewing is like bringing up beer. The did not brew the beer, they brought it up. And this is indeed true, as brewing beer is a process that requires a great deal of expertise and attention: it needs to be brought up and looked after like a child.
This is the best place for my beer belly!
I organise all my activities here. Even the ones I don't attend.
Here at last I can be the Pharaoh of Egypt... they call me, "Come Rameses!"
Alcohol does not make you happy. But it sure as hell calms me down.
A huge choice of drinks! At first I was desperate, like a balloon seller in a shower of arrows.
